Our story

Why EdLab exists, and where it's going

Emma Spencer built EdLab on what she learned inside real classrooms and real schools — and she's building it to grow past just her.

Emma Spencer is a UK-trained primary educator, senior leader, and curriculum specialist with over two decades of classroom and leadership experience across the UK and top-tier British international schools. Twenty-three years is long enough to see what actually moves a child's learning forward, and long enough to get tired of watching good ideas stay locked inside one school's staff room.

Throughout her career she has held pivotal leadership roles, including Key Stage 2 Leader, English Leader, Maths Leader, and Creative Curriculum Leader, shaping academic strategy, driving standards, and building vibrant, high-performing learning environments. She has also worked as a dedicated teacher trainer and mentor, leading school-wide staff training initiatives, spearheading major project rollouts, and building the monitoring systems that turn a good idea into a habit across a whole school.

What EdLab is built on

Specialising in primary literacy, Emma combines deep subject expertise with a strong interest in child wellbeing and metacognition — the science of how children learn. That combination is the whole premise of EdLab: academic excellence and emotional resilience aren't separate projects, they move together, and a lesson plan that ignores one usually undercuts the other.

Where it's going

EdLab starts as Emma's own practice: her tutoring, her training sessions, her courses. But it isn't meant to stay that way. The plan is for EdLab to grow into something bigger than any one person, a wider bench of specialists working from the same standards Emma has spent 23 years building, so more classrooms and more families can reach it than she could reach alone.
